The Senate has requested that President Muhammadu Buhari declare bandits terrorists in order to aid security services in combating criminal elements.
In the motion which was sponsored by Ibrahim Gobir and 8 others, the lawmakers expressed concern that Sokoto State and other parts of the North West have become a refuge for bandits.
The Upper Chamber regretted the massive human and material casualties caused by bandits, largely of Fulani Ethnic background, in an adopted resolution on Wednesday.
In a related development, Senator Uche Ekwunife bemoaned insecurity in the South East stressing that there was a need for the quick intervention from the Federal Government before it became too late.
