The Senate has passed the Federal Road Bill which seeks to repeal the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency Act, Federal Highways Act, and the Control of Advertisement on Federal Highways Act.
The bill which was sponsored by the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Toby Okechukwu and Ossai Nicholas aimed at facilitating the establishment of an agency to govern and manage the nation’s federal roads network.
According to Okechukwu, the agency is expected to facilitate private sector participation in the development, financing, and maintenance of roads in Nigeria.
He added that it will also regulate contracts for road concession and other forms of public private partnership.
