The former United States Secretary of state, Colin Powell, has died due to complications from COVID-19.
A statement issued by the family revealed that Powell died on Monday at the age of 84.
The former Secretary was instrumental in shaping the foreign policy of Republican presidential administrations for decades.
He served as national security adviser to former President Ronald Reagan from 1987 to 1989 and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under former President George HW Bush and former President Bill Clinton from 1989 to 1993.
