The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP has petitioned the United Nations over the vicious assault on Justice Mary Odili.
A petition dated 13 November 2021, and signed by SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, disclosed that the intimidation and harassment of Justice Odidi is a flagrant assault on judicial independence and the rule of law in Nigeria.
The petition urged the UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, Diego García-Sayán, to put pressure on the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to conduct a credible and effective investigation into the vicious assault on Odili by armed officials.
It also urged that the outcome of the investigation be made public, adding that the suspected perpetrators and their sponsors brought to justice.
