The speaker of Libya’s eastern-based parliament, Aguila Saleh has said he will run for the presidency in next month’s election.
Saleh’s announcement follows that of several other prominent Libyans including the son of Libya’s former dictator, Saif Gaddafi, and the powerful military commander, Khalifa Haftar.
The Speaker said he would seek to turn the page on conflict, look towards the future and launch a process of national reconciliation.
Libya has been wracked by chaos since a NATO-backed uprising in 2011 toppled longtime dictator Muammar Gaddafi, who was later killed.
