Reports say Sudanese security forces fired tear gas to disperse pro-democracy protesters near the presidential palace in the capital, Khartoum, as tens of thousands marched against military rule following last month’s coup.
According to the report, the rally on Tuesday was the latest show of opposition to military rule since last month’s coup that ended a partnership between civilian political groups and the military.
The report revealed that the opposition had called for the protests despite a deal last week that reinstated Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok and released most civilian leaders detained since October’s coup.
It, however, disclosed that prominent political parties and Sudan’s powerful protest movement have opposed Hamdok’s decision to sign the accord with the military.
