Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has signed the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill, VAPP into law on Wednesday.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Nkechi Ugwu via her social media handles.
According to Ugwu, the law witnessed several criticisms from some groups in the state, who alleged it promoted gay rights but was debunked by the sponsor, Uju Onwudiwe, representing Njaba state constituency at the state House of Assembly.
The Bill will herald the establishment of a safe referral center for survivors to heal from the trauma of rape.
