At least 16 people have dead following violent confrontations between Colombian rebel groups near the country’s border with Venezuela.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Columbia Army, noting that 12 families had been displaced.
The statement revealed that most of those killed were civilians in the Colombia’s Eastern Arauca department and dissident members of the National Liberation Army.
It called on local authorities to be present and protect civilians in the border area, which has seen an uptick in violence linked to armed groups since early 2021.
