Kwara State branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has blamed the State Government for the clash on the wearing of hijab by female Muslim students of the Baptist High School, Ijagbo, in the Oyun Local Government Area of the state.
A statement jointly signed by the acting Chairman and Secretary, of CAN, S. Adewole and Reuben Ibitoye, said the unfortunate incident that occurred at the Baptist School, on February 3, 2022, should have been averted if the state government had yielded to CAN’s earlier appeal.
The statement noted that CAN and stakeholders did not sign any agreement with the State Government on the use of hijab as claimed by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Sa’aadatu Kawu.
It appealed to the Christian community in the state to be calm and peaceful, stressing that all issues will be resolved soonest.
