Uganda government has said it will impose fines on people who refuse to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and those who fail to pay would be sent to prison.
Health Minister, Jane Aceng who disclosed this said an amendment of a Public health law is currently being reviewed in Parliament to repeal the obsolete provisions and to revise the fines for offences committed.
According to Aceng, the East African country started administering COVID-19 vaccines a year ago, but only about 16 million jabs have been administered in a population of 45 million.
She noted that this led to the Parliament’s Health Committee scrutinizing the Public Health (Amendment) Bill 2021, which seeks to make coronavirus vaccination mandatory.
