Armenia and Azerbaijan Agree to EU Mission

Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to a civilian European Union mission alongside their border, where the two countries have recorded worst fighting since 2020.

The agreement was reached after Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Armenia’s Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, France’s President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Charles Michel met in Prague on Thursday.

According to the European Council, the mission that will start by the end of this month aims to help mark out the border between the two countries for a maximum of two months.

It added that the two countries confirmed their commitment to the Charter of the United Nations and the Alma Ata 1991 Declaration through which both recognize each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
