The Nigeria Centre of Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has revealed that lack of childhood immunization has resulted in the outbreak of diphtheria, in some parts of the country.
NCDC Director-General, Ifedayo Adetifa, stated that the resurgence of the disease in some states in Nigeria was proof that there had been significant reduction in childhood immunization.
Adetifa noted that though the ailment is a vaccine preventable and treatable, it is still very deadly and should not be taken lightly.
He added that it was monitoring the situation in Osun and Yobe states where cases were picked up.
