Court gives SSS go-ahead to detain Nigerian link to ISIS

The Federal High Court in Abuja granted the Department of State Services (DSS) permission to detain Emmanuel Osase, accused of being an ISIS member, for 60 days for investigation. Inyang Ekwo, who was the presiding Judge delivered the ruling, citing Section 66(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022.
Osase, arrested on March 11, allegedly supported ISIS by spreading its messages and advocating for terrorist attacks on Nigeria. The DSS argued for his detention, citing his prior conviction in France for terrorism-related offenses and ongoing engagement with pro-ISIS online groups.
The DSS emphasized Osase’s threat to national security and the ongoing investigation’s need for his detention to prevent further risks. The court adjourned the case till June 3.
