Inibehe Effiong, a human rights lawyer, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to Eric Umeofia, the CEO of Erisco Foods Limited, demanding an apology and retraction for alleged defamatory remarks. Effiong insists on a published apology in two national newspapers and N100 million in damages, threatening legal action if demands are not met within the stipulated time frame.
Effiong’s demand stems from Umeofia’s purportedly damaging claims made during a TV interview in October 2023, where Umeofia allegedly accused Effiong of deceiving a client by hiring a ‘fake lawyer.’ Effiong asserts that such accusations have caused emotional distress and financial harm, vowing to pursue legal recourse with the support of renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana.
In response, Effiong’s legal representative, Femi Falana, SAN, has served a demand letter to Erisco Foods Limited, demanding a written apology, retraction of statements, and N100 million in damages within the given timeframe. Effiong remains resolute in pursuing further legal actions against Umeofia and Erisco Foods Limited.
