Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri, has signed the Medical Residency Training Law 2024 into effect. This move establishes Bayelsa as the first state in the country to enact such a beneficial law aimed at supporting resident doctors in their specialization efforts.
The newly assented bill, initiated as an Executive Bill and swiftly processed by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, is designed to provide crucial funding support for resident doctors in the state pursuing specialization in various fields of medicine.
Diri lauded the Assembly for expeditiously addressing the bill, underscoring its importance in bolstering the healthcare sector, emphasizing his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its workers, particularly in the medical profession.
He expressed satisfaction that the concerns raised by medical unions regarding the need for legislation to safeguard the interests of resident doctors were promptly addressed. Moving forward, the governor pledged full implementation of all provisions outlined in the legislation, affirming his government’s dedication to creating an enabling environment for healthcare professionals in Bayelsa State.
