In Nigeria, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) are calling on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the rising spread of arms in the Niger Delta region. The CSOs, part of the Civil Society Organization Network of Nigeria (CSONN), voiced their concerns during aq demonstration at the NNPC headquarters in Abuja.
CSONN highlighted the link between the proliferation of arms and increased violent crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism in the Niger Delta, stressing the urgent need for the President to take decisive action to address the situation before it escalates further.
The group also urged the government to review pipeline surveillance contracts awarded to former militants, expressing fears that these contracts could fuel further armament and empower these individual, as well pledging to continue their advocacy until these pressing issues are tackled.
