Customers not enjoying 20 hours of electricity won’t pay new tariff

The Nigerian Government on Monday said that customers not enjoying 20 hours of electricity would not have to pay the new tariff.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, stated this while appearing before the Senate Committee on Power for a one-day investigative hearing on the need to halt new electricity tariff, emphasizing the Federal government had introduced the new policy to save the power sector, saying that the pains were temporary.
The clarification comes as a relief electricity consumers grapple with the recent increase in tariff by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.
The minister also stated that the Federal Government would pay the sum of N2.9 trillion to subsidise electricity this year if the tariff was not reviewed.
