Reps seeks to make Appeal Court final appellate authority of post-election cases

The House of Representatives on Wednesday moved to make Appeal Court the final authority in all post election cases.
A bill seeking an amendment to the 1999 Constitution, as amended, to make the Court of Appeal the final court for the hearing and determination of petitions on governorship, National Assembly and state House of Assembly elections has passed first reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill which was sponsored by Nnamdi Ezechi, the member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency, aims to streamline the appeal process for post elections cases by designating the Court of Appeal as the final appellate authority.
According to Ezechi, the initiative was driven by the intention to mitigate delays and save cost in post-election litigation.
