In a major operation to rescue civilians held captive by insurgents, the Nigerian military has handed over 350 people recovered from the Sambisa forest to the Borno State Government for rehabilitation and reintegration.
The group includes 6 adult males, 134 females, and 209 children who were being held against their will in the forest by the militants.
Kenneth Chigbu, the Deputy Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North East Operation(Hadin Kai), stated that the military had provided initial medical evaluation and clothing to the rescued persons.
Meanwhile, the Borno Government has pledged to document them, offer mental health and psychosocial support, and provide skills acquisition training before facilitating their reintegration into communities and reuniting them with families.
