The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appealed to the organized labour unions to consider students sitting for the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as they commence their indefinite strike from Monday.
In an interview, the Head of WAEC’s National Office, Amos Dangut, acknowledged that most of WAEC’s employees in Nigeria are members of the striking unions.
However, he reminded the unions of the ongoing WASSCE exams which began on April 30th and are scheduled until June 24th across WAEC member countries.
Dangut stated that any disruption to the examination activities this week, when key papers like Physics, Economics, and Government are scheduled, would place candidates at a major disadvantage in their academic pursuits.
