The Federal Government has issued a warning to hospital managements across the nation, stating that the government will take decisive action against any hospital that refuses to attend to patients brought in during emergencies.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, disclosed this at the ‘Unlock Grants Award’ ceremony in Abuja on Sunday.
This move comes in response to growing concerns raised by the House of Representatives earlier this year, prompting the Federal Ministry of Health to address the issue of hospitals denying treatment to accident or gunshot victims without a police report.
Kennedy-Ohanenye made it clear that the federal government will no longer tolerate such incidents, directing hospitals to prominently display signboards declaring ‘No more rejection of emergency patients.’
Furthermore, she revealed that a mobile court has been established to adjudicate cases related to this issue.
