The Southern Governors’ Forum, representing 17 governors from Nigeria’s South-West, South-East, and South-South regions, plans to generate 90,000 MW of electricity to meet the power needs of 90 million residents in these areas.
This was contained in a communique made available to newsmen on Thursday.
According to the communique jointly signed by all the Governors, the ambitious project uses a rule of thumb that estimates the need for 1,000 MW per 1 million people.
The forum took advantage of the recent constitutional amendments that allows states to regulate, generate, transmit, and distribute electricity.
Additionally, the governors have urged the Federal Government to allow each state to set wages based on their individual cost of living and financial capabilities.
