The Delta State Police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, has stated that it is a criminal offense to conceal a case of child defilement.
Edafe gave the warning while enlightening the public about the consequence of child defilement through a post on his X handle, where he declared that parents who cover defilement will be charged to court for aiding and abetting.
He pointed out that sexual intercourse with either a girl or boy under the age of 13 years is defilement, with the punishment if found guilty being life imprisonment, and that in this case, consent is immaterial and such offences cannot be compounded.
He also mentioned that swearing to an affidavit in court won’t work, and that, any parent who tries to cover defilement could be charged to court for aiding and abetting.
