The Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) Imo State Chapter on July 10, 2024 launched a crucial sensitization program focused on minimizing aflatoxin contamination in exportable agricultural products.
The event, held at the (NEPC) Owerri zonal office , gathered local farmers, exporters, agricultural extension officers, and food safety experts.
Aflatoxins, toxic substances produced by certain molds, pose serious health risks and can severely impact the quality and marketability of agricultural exports.
The program aimed to educate participants on effective strategies for preventing aflatoxin contamination, emphasizing the importance of good agricultural practices, proper storage, and handling techniques.
The NEPC Imo State Coordinator, Ajuruchi Anthony underscored the council’s dedication to improving the quality of Nigerian agricultural products to meet international standards while highlighting the need addressing aflatoxin contamination, as it is essential for maintaining the state’s and Nigeria’s reputation in the global market and safeguarding consumer health.
The program also encouraged collaboration between government agencies, research institutions, and the private sector to ensure the initiative’s success.
The NEPC’s effort in Imo State marks a significant step toward securing the state’s position as a key exporter of safe and high-quality agricultural products.
