The Supreme Court has ordered all state governors to henceforth steer clear of the funds meant for the 774 local government areas of the country.
Justice Lawal, who led a 7-man panel of Justices of the Apex Court, ruled today, that the control of local government areas funds by states is unconstitutional and therefore ordered the federal government to pay allocations directly to the local government councils.
Recall that the federal government had on Thursday, June 13, dragged the 36 state governors to court for not granting local government autonomy in their states.
