The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Ifeanyi Ubah, has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing the Southeast Development Commission Bill into law.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday by Ubah’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategic Communications, Chuks Ogbonna, highlighted that the bill would foster rapid development and unity in the region while Ubah praised Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the developmental challenges in the Southeast region.
Ubah emphasized that the bill’s passage is the culmination of the Southeast’s efforts to establish a commission dedicated to addressing the region’s critical needs noting that the bill’s signing reverses the disappointment from former President Muhammadu Buhari’s denial of assent, which had previously reinforced feelings of injustice and hindered the APC’s progress in the region.
He further commended President Tinubu for facilitating meaningful collaboration between the Southeast and the federal government, ensuring the region’s growth and prosperity.
The bill aims to establish a commission responsible for managing funds from the Federation Account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses, and other infrastructural damage in the region due to the civil war while adding that the commission will address ecological problems and related environmental or developmental challenges in Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi States.
