The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, convened an emergency security meeting on Monday after far-right riots erupted across the country over the weekend.
Residents of various locations woke up to scenes of chaos, including buildings set ablaze and asylum seeker hotels attacked by angry mobs.
According to the U.K.’s National Police Chiefs’ Council, nearly 150 people were arrested during the unrest which was triggered by false rumors circulating online following a stabbing attack in Southport that resulted in the deaths of three young girls.
The South Yorkshire police have reported that about 700 people were involved in the unrest, with 10 officers injured, one of whom was left unconscious.
