Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has refuted the widely held belief that his father, the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, fought against the Nigerian government.
In a recent interview on an entertainment podcast, Seun clarified that his father, the legendary afrobeat pioneer and socio-political critic, directed his activism primarily against the wealthy elite of Nigeria, rather than the government itself.
Seun emphasized this point by referencing several of Fela’s songs, including “Lady” and “Ikoyi versus Mushin,” which he said were aimed at critiquing the affluent class.
Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was widely known for using his music to challenge societal injustices and expose the failures of governance in Nigeria.
