President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, swore in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the 23rd substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria, promising to uphold the independence and sanctity of the judiciary.
Kekere-Ekun, the second female CJN in Nigeria’s history, was sworn in at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
The Monday ceremony followed her screening and confirmation by the Senate last Wednesday.
President Tinubu highlighted the pivotal role of the judiciary in safeguarding Nigeria’s constitutional democracy while adding that the judiciary’s sensitive role required true independence respected by the other arms of government.
