Nollywood veteran, Bob-Manuel Udokwu on Thursday has shared his thoughts on reports that Hollywood actor Idris Elba will take on the role of “Okonkwo” in an upcoming television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s iconic novel, Things Fall Apart.
According to Variety, the series is in development at A24, with Elba and Gina Carter as executive producers under the 22Summers banner.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen, Udokwu expressed no objections to Elba’s casting but pointed out that Nigeria boasts top-tier actors who could bring even more authenticity to the role, considering the story’s roots.
He emphasized that the growing collaboration between Nollywood and international film industries is a positive step forward and also revealed his own current project, which features talents from both Bollywood and Hollywood.
Things Fall Apart is the first novel in Achebe’s renowned African Trilogy, with previous adaptations including a film and a miniseries, where Pete Edochie famously portrayed the lead role of Okonkwo.
