The Nigeria Police Force has expressed deep concern over the rising cases of jungle justice across the country, warning of its damaging effects on the criminal justice system, the rule of law, and Nigeria’s global image.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the trend as deplorable and barbaric, and stressed the tragic loss of lives and widespread destruction of property.
Adejobi described the act as a grave violation of justice and due process and urged Nigerians to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, as such actions compromise the integrity of the country’s justice system.
He cited incidents where suspects in police custody were killed by burning, and police facilities, including barracks, patrol vehicles, and a divisional police station in Edo State, were set ablaze.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of such acts are brought to justice, while calling on the public to collaborate with law enforcement agencies in upholding peace and justice.
