Electricity consumers in the Federal Capital Territory’s Band A category, who receive at least 20 hours of power daily and currently pay N209.5 per kilowatt-hour, are urging the Federal Government to reduce high electricity tariffs due to ongoing economic challenges.
Residents of Lugbe, Area 10, and Apo resettlement areas shared their concerns with the Newsmen on Sunday citing that while they appreciate the reliable power supply, the costs are overwhelming.
Report on Unsustainable Electricity Costs in Lugbe
A civil servant residing in Lugbe reported monthly electricity bills exceeding N30,000 for a two-bedroom apartment, describing this expense as unsustainable given her income.
Similarly, a local vulcanizer stated that his earnings are insufficient to meet the high electricity tariffs. Both individuals are urging the government to review the Band A tariffs to better reflect current economic realities.
