The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Interior, to immediately enhance security measures for Transmission Towers nationwide in order to prevent future vandalism incidents.
The resolution was passed following the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance presented on Tuesday by Oboku Oforji, which highlights the need for swift government intervention to protect transmission infrastructure, particularly in Rivers, Bayelsa, and other parts of the country.
Oforji, who moved the motion, referenced an incident on July 29, 2024, when residents of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, and surrounding areas experienced a complete power blackout due to the collapse of a Transmission Station located between Emezhi and Mbaima in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In his remarks, Oforji emphasized the importance of proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future, stressing the need for government action in safeguarding critical infrastructure.
The House of Representatives has called for immediate and comprehensive security for the nation’s Transmission Towers to prevent further vandalism and ensure the continuity of essential services.
