The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced a achievement in its pursuit of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), with 19.2 million Nigerians now enrolled in health insurance scheme.
The Director-General of NHIA, Kelechi Ohiri, revealed this progress during a roundtable event in Abuja commemorating the 2024 Universal Health Coverage Day.
Speaking at the event, Ohiri lauded the accomplishment as a pivotal step in improving healthcare accessibility nationwide, surpassing the NHIA’s 2024 target and advancing the country to 95% of its 2027 presidential health insurance coverage goal.
Ohiri credited the achievement to strategic policy reforms, robust stakeholder collaborations, and the agency’s resolute commitment to UHC.
He also emphasized the role of the expanded Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) and partnerships with state health insurance agencies in driving this achievement.
