The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has identified staff shortages as a major challenge limiting its operations.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, made this known during an interview with journalists.
Adeyeye clarified that while NAFDAC is primarily associated with regulating substandard and falsified medicines, the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) also plays a role, particularly in the registration of drug-selling sites and practitioners.
She, however, pointed out that both agencies are severely understaffed, hindering their ability to effectively fulfill their mandates.
The Director-General urged the government to address the staffing shortfall to ensure efficient service delivery.
