The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has revealed that the Agency has rescued 17,443 trafficked persons since it began operations in 2003.
Benin Zonal Commander of the Agency, Nduka Nwannwenne, made the disclosure, at a sensitization programme in Ologbo Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo state on Thursday.
Nwannwenne stated that 502 persons have been convicted within the same period, adding that the traffickers always come under the guise of helping the victims to seek better opportunities abroad.
The Commander regretted the fact that some parents forced their children to embark on this journey without knowing the inherent danger involved.
