The governments of Australia, United States and United Kingdom have announced a new trilateral security alliance, including a joint effort to help the Australian military acquire nuclear-powered submarines, in an apparent attempt to counter China.
Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison who disclosed this yesterday, said the newly announced partnership would deliver a safer and more secure region and ultimately benefit all.
According to Morrison, the submarines would be nuclear powered, not carrying nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, in a joined virtual meeting, the Australian Prime Minister and his UK counterpart, Boris Johnson, US President Joe Biden said the three nations are taking a historic step to deepen their cooperation which is imperative of ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific over the long term.
