The Federal Government has commenced training for 120 cassava farmers from Ondo, Edo and Ekiti states.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohammad Abubakar, who was represented by the Ondo State Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Tony Otunoye, stated that the training centered on control of pests and diseases, particularly white flies on cassava.
Abubakar, noted that the white flies had infected cassava plant with cassava mosaic disease, leading to a consistent reduction in output in some cassava-producing states in the country.
The Minister added that the training became necessary to sensitize farmers and other stakeholders along the cassava value chain from the three states.
