In Imo State, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has issued a challenge to Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodimma to conduct local government elections in the state to gauge the popularity of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaking to reporters, the National Vice Chairman of ADC, South East, Chilos Godsent, expressed concern over the lack of local government elections in the past sixteen years under both previous and current administrations.
According to Godsent, the absence of democratic local government elections has deprived Imo youths of opportunities for economic and political empowerment. The ADC believes that implementing a democratic local government system could engage over ten thousand youths, foster rapid development in rural communities, and significantly reduce crime rates by addressing issues of joblessness and unemployment.
