The Abia State government has announced its intent to implement a Pension Contributory Scheme (PCS) for civil servants, which is aimed at providing pensioners with a greater sense of inclusion. Okey Kanu, Commissioner for Information and Culture, revealed this decision after the state Executive Council meeting in Umuahia on Tuesday.
Kanu emphasized that pensioners will now receive their pensions in full, a departure from the previous practice of partial payments. Additionally, the government directed that pensioners, like civil servants, will be paid on the 28th of each month.
To address concerns regarding pension arrears and other related issues, the Ministry of Finance has established a help desk. Kanu assured that this measure would assist individuals whose names were omitted from pension lists and resolve other arising challenges.
