Rivers State Government has warned that any distributor found engaging in acts capable of compromising the quality of drinking water would be punished.
The state Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, gave the warning while speaking at the 2021 Global Hand Washing Day in Port Harcourt.
Gogo-Jaja warned against exposure of sachet and bottled water to sunlight, noting that it may cause cancer, leukemia and it is capable of damaging other body tissues.
The Commissioner urged distributors to ensure that their trucks were always covered to protect the water from sunlight.
