An intelligence-led raid on an identified criminal hideout at No 1 Chidiobi Street, Site and Services, World Bank Layout, by Operatives of the Command’s Narcotics Unit led to the arrest of a 31-year-old young man named Micheal Uzondu, of Amimo in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State and the recovery of one locally made pistol and suspected hard drug substance in his possession.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he bought the said pistol from a gun-runner at Ugirike in Ikeduru LGA for his protection.
Investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to apprehend the dealers and manufacturers of the locally-made guns.
The Commissioner of Police, Commissioner of Police, Imo State in a press release statement dated Tuesday the 30th of April, urged Imolites to support the Police with actionable information to curb the proliferation of illicit firearms.
