The Supreme Court on Thursday has ordered the governors of the 36 states of Nigeria to present their defense within seven days regarding the Federal Government’s suit seeking full autonomy for the 774 Local Government Areas.
The seven-member panel, led by Justice Garba Lawal, stipulated that the AGF must also respond to the governors’ defenses within two days of receipt.
The court has scheduled the full hearing to commence on June 13, 2024.
Recall that the court commenced hearing on the application filed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, requesting the autonomy of Local governments from the State governments.
