The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has joined the indefinite strike called by the organized labor unions comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
This comes after the Federal Government failed to meet the minimum wage demands of the unions.
In a statement issued on Monday Emmanuel Osodeke, the Chairman ASUU, directed lecturers across all universities in the country to join the strike action, as ASUU is an affiliate member of the labor congress.
The statement cited the government’s failure to conclude renegotiations on the minimum wage for workers and reverse the recent electricity tariff hike as reasons for the strike.
With ASUU now joining the broader labor action, university academic activities across the nation are set to be disrupted.
