Four Dead In Thailand As Typhoon Flooding Hits North

Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains from Typhoon Yagi have claimed four lives in northern Thailand and displaced thousands from their homes.

The government of Thailand announced on Wednesday that it has mobilized the army to assist affected families, while volunteers and rescue workers have been deployed to relocate elderly residents to safer areas.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department confirmed the first deaths are linked to Tropical Storm Yagi, reporting two fatalities in a landslide in Chiang Mai and two more in Chiang Rai, near the Myanmar border.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced that aid is being sent to around 9,000 families affected by floods in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

Recall that a total of 29 people have been killed from heavy rain-related disasters since the start of the season according to the nation’s emergency operation centre.
