The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted claims linking its officers to a viral video showing uniformed personnel scooping fuel from a crashed tanker.
In a press statement issued on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the individuals captured in the footage were not Nigerian policemen but uniformed personnel from a neighboring francophone country.
He further explained that the uniforms worn by the individuals bear a resemblance to those of the NPF but belong to personnel from a francophone country adding that the individuals were speaking French, not any Nigerian language or English.
The NPF strongly condemned the spread of what it described as “disinformation and unverified content,” warning that such actions undermine the integrity and reputation of the force.
Adejobi assured the public of the police’s unwavering commitment to discipline, professionalism, and public safety, urging the public and media practitioners to verify information before sharing it to prevent the spread of falsehoods.
