The Federal Government has hinted it may settle for out-of-court solution to the lingering legal battle between the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and Rivers and Lagos states government, as regard the collection of Value Added Tax, VAT.
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning Zainab Ahmed, noted this while speaking with newsmen during the week.
Ahmed disclosed that she is optimistic there would be a political solution to the issue rather than a protracted court case.
Recall that the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, had on August 9 ruled that Rivers State and not the FIRS should be in charge of collecting VAT and Personal Income Tax in the state.
