Honduras Swears in First Female President

Honduras has sworn in Xiomara Castro as the country’s first female president.

Castro was sworn in on Thursday during a ceremony at a National Stadium in the Capital, Tegucigalpa.

She was the leader of the left-wing Libre Party, and won the November 28 election by a healthy margin.

Honduras faces high unemployment, persistent violence, corruption, as well as troubled healthcare and educational systems challenges.
