The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has condemned the use of Formalin for the preservation of frozen chicken and meat in some markets.
This was disclosed by NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, who was represented by the Director of Narcotics and Controlled Substances, Musa Umar, during a sensitization campaign in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Adeyeye revealed that Formalin is a chemical used for embalming or preserving corpses which is very toxic and dangerous to health.
The Director called on all Nigerians to be vigilant and help in fighting the menace, reiterating that the agency is making effort to ensure that the practice is stopped due to its health implication.
