The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Sheikh Quasim Musa, the Chief Imam of Iyara in Ijumu Local Government Area, by unidentified gunmen. Reports indicate that the Islamic cleric was taken on Monday night from outside his residence in Ilukpa, Iyara, the hub of Ijumu Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses in the area mentioned that the assailants, arriving in a forceful manner, fired shots indiscriminately before seizing Sheikh Quasim and transporting him to an undisclosed location.
According to a family member who preferred anonymity, they have not received any communication from the abductors regarding the situation.
In a distressing turn of events on Monday, March 25, 2024, gunmen believed to be Fulani herdsmen raided the home of Sheikh Quasim Musa, the Chief Imam of Iyara land, shooting before abducting him.
The religious figure was taken around 10:00 PM after returning from the mosque and resting outside his home in Ilukpa, Iyara, the administrative center of Ijumu Local Government Area in Kogi State. The community urges prayers for his safe return and appeals to authorities for prompt actions to secure his release.
